Campfire Night - The Story Behind the Photo 'Supernatural'

As you climb the steep hill on the abandoned road the sounds of infrequent traffic fade and give way to woods noises and the sound of birds. Bigfoot, Native burials and the ghost of the sentry are all said to be present here. Graves going back to at least the 1800's are on top of the hill surrounded by fields and gnarled trees. A scenic pond lies not too far away. Once part of a mining operation it now sits quietly and is visited by birders, naturalists, photographers, ghost hunters and unfortunately vandals.

Like much of the landscape here that I grew up with this place still gives me a feeling of both curiosity and apprehension. You can feel alone in a group and on edge if you're alone. I would almost prefer to visit here on a blustery or cloudy day as the bright sunlight seems to add a false sense of cheer to a sometimes unwelcoming atmosphere.

Of all of the photos that I've taken here this one strikes me as capturing the feeling most accurately. The long shadows, the silence of the markers, the expanse of the area and the contrasts in the sky all combine into that feeling of needing to leave quickly that often grabs me here.

Does Bigfoot roam here? I doubt it but I'm never one to say that manifestations cannot happen and if they do I would surely expect them to happen here. I have heard a few unexplained calls and noises in different place in the valley here being one of them. I will continue to look over my shoulder when I visit. If nothing else I may see a random coyote.
