The Persistence of Plants

I have never had a front flower garden but I had inherited one from the owner of the property where we live. It was an old farmhouse that eventually had to be replaced. One of the things that always bothered me was that I did not have the time to rescue a large patch of lilies that had grown in a corner near the backdoor. I wasn't successful with the old rose bushes either but managed to save some ferns. It was only a couple of years ago that I noticed that some familiar plants were trying to grow in an inconvenient place next to the front stoop. I cut them down for years in fear of the yard police who frown on anything that even looks close to out of place. Finally last year I decided that I didn't care what anyone thought and I let things grow. I have no idea how these made it through a new foundation and all of the construction but I'm glad that they did and the yard police can learn to live with them.
